Discuss - Family Connections > I am your 2nd cousin once removed through Matheus Rerecich

Mickey, fantastic site; I really appreciate all the research you've done here. If I figured correctly, I believe I am your 2nd cousin once removed (common ancestor through Matteo or Matheus 1840 - 1880 on your chart. My great grandfather was Antonio, brother to your grandmother Oliva. At some point after immigrating, Antonio and/or members of his family linked up with relatives who were already based on the west coast of the United States (pursuing salmon fishing). I grew up in Seattle. Anyhow, thanks again for the great site. I especially appreciate the info on Glagolitic and the old church records you've posted!

Mark, my grandfather Marco migrated 1n 1905, my grandmother Oliva in 1907, they live next to your grandfather Antonio in Hoboken NJ – at less to 1910, they did move to different parts like you say your great grandfather father to the Seattle area and my grandfather and grandmother to Astoria NY, where Marco became a night watchman in a shipyard. Marco die in 1929, and my father had to leave school and help support the family. One year (early 1930s)0he thumb to Seattle and fish with Antonio’s family. My grandmother remarried and the family final settle in Brooklyn NY. I have been in touch with Laura Rerecich Casey and is a friend on my Facebook.

Thanks very much for that additional info, Mickey. I believe that part about Hoboken was previously unknown (or more likely lost some time ago) to any of my close living relatives, so that was extremely helpful. I'm just starting to poke around a little in this genealogy realm and would really appreciate any tips you might be able to provide as time allows. Do you happen to have the old Hoboken, NJ addresses? I've never met Laura, which is a real shame, since I realize now that she was my dad's (Anton G Rerecich, deceased in 1993) first cousin and very close to his age. I'll be sure to contact her now as well. Thanks again, Mickey.

Mark, On My web page http://www.mickeya.com/marco-antoncich-and-oliva-rere/ ypu can find the census of 1910 , where you will find Antonio living at 201 Monroe Street and next door at 202 you will find Michael (marco) and Oliva (Antoncich miss spelled) . Also Laura turn me on to a book called "LET IT GO Louie" about the Croatians on Bainbridge Island, Where your family is references. I think I have the passenger List of Antonio (1905) and Maria (1908) Rerecich in my files – if you want I can send you any info I have on your family.

Thanks again Mickey. I would be extremely grateful for anything else you might be able to pass (markrerecich@yahoo.com). I've also ordered the book that Laura recommended to you (I had no idea that so many families of Adriatic Croatians ended up specifically on Bainbridge Island). Your site has provided the most info on the Rerecich surname and my specific lineage that I've seen online anywhere (my now-deceased aunt Roberta (daughter of my grandpa Anton P Rerecich, son of Antonio Rerecich) also did some research a few years ago, but I'm not sure what her original sources were. They are at http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/s/c/h/Roberta-M-Schwarz/index.html). From your site, it sure seems you must have actually gone back to the island and accessed/copied original church records? I had thought about trying to do that some day, but you've provided everything anyone with any interest would need. Now I can just hope to visit someday without the pressure of drudging up the documents! Thank you again for the site.
